WAIT - WHAT!?
I’ve been feeling very nostalgic as of late and have been thinking about old games I used to play and love. On the list today is Dark Cloud 2 for Playstation 2.
A long time ago, I only used to play role playing games. RPGs were the type of game I could really get into - from Harvest Moon to Final Fantasy. I would play games that had hours and hours of entertainment with lots to read and many plots to follow. Dark Cloud 2 was one of the first RPGs that I ever picked up for my PS2, and it was a great game.
Dark Cloud 2 had some of my favourite gaming elements, it had a role playing game with a massive story arch that spread across space and time and even allowed you to control and recruit multiple characters. There were a lot of “recruiting” side missions and a photography element (which allowed you to invent new items and weapons). The storyline involved travelling through time to defeat a deep dark evil, but would also allow you to buy and place buildings in the past which would affect the future depending on their location, size or position in correlation to other buildings.
The game featured dungeon scrolling with randomized dungeons and real-time battles (I generally prefer turn based), but loved this game so much. I got pretty far before I realized I had to continue to grind for a couple hours in order to get any further and took a break that ended up being indefinite. The strategy guide for the game was also amazing featuring art and exact locations and recipes of all these hidden bosses and items, but sadly I lent it to a friend and his cat relieved himself on the strategy guide and I haven’t been able to find another one since (I still check used game shops for them…).
Check out some of the gameplay videos. If you ever find this game for cheap it comes highly recommended. (Link to a review video on YouTube).
I think I might have to pick up Journey on the PSN this weekend and give it a test run.
I’ve loved thatgamecompany’s previous PSN releases - flOw and Flower, and judging by the gameplay videos I’ve seen: they’ve once again created a game that combines art and gaming in an extraordinary way.
I just finished this game - and let me tell you: it was incredible.
The art and music is amazing. It’s a co-operative experience unlike any other. It’s absolutely one of my favourite games I’ve ever played. The only downside is that it was a very short game (just over an hour and a half). But worth every penny. Support thatgamecompany and download this on PSN right now.

The Doctor’s two dimensional adventures on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Vita aren’t quite as lost in time as the doctor himself, as Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock has been given a “March 2012” launch window. Perhaps you were worried that Supermassive Games (note:not Bastion dev Supergiant Games) wouldn’t include series staples like Silurians, Daleks, and whatever “The Silence” is? Well … uh … quit worrying about that, because they’re alltotally in there.
Also in there? Classic 2D gameplay! And, well, did we mention that those characters from the long-running TV series are in the game? Because they are, in case you didn’t realize that.
