Final Mondo Posters of the year! This was a pretty uneventful Mondo year for me! Aside from my Kill Bill score back in April, it was nothing like the Star Wars mania of last year. (It was actually this time last year I picked up the Stout trilogy!)

After hearing so many positive reviews from Tumblr, Meg bought “Monster Squad” on blu-ray from Best Buy two weeks ago on a whim. It’s a cheesy kid’s horror film from 1987 about how Dracula, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Wolfman, Frankenstein and the Mummy come together to attempt to open up hell…or something. It ended up being very mature for a kid’s film, using some mature language and there were a couple of scenes that dealt with bullying, spousal abuse, and teenage nudity and sex.
It was pretty funny though and the creature effects were really well done. The makeup and costumes were extremely detailed, and there were some scenes that were actually pretty frightening for kids. We only made it through 3/5 retrospective bonus features though, including information on the director, actors, make up and other things, but it was still around 45 minutes of bonus features that we plowed through and still haven’t even watched the two audio commentaries from various people who worked on the film. It looked great and was definitely worth the watch, especially at this time of year.
