Jack Black & Kyle Gass join Chris & Jonah at Swinghouse Studios in Los Angeles for a chitty chat about country music, making fun of other bands, and how to approach Michael Stipe at a party. PLUS! The D perform a couple of songs from their fantastic new album “Rise of the Fenix” as well as a couple of classics–one of which might melt your brain out of your ears with awesomeness. This episode is definitely “beyond the rim of the starlight!”
Amazing podcast - really enjoyed it. It was very candid and got me ready for their new album!
Last week I finished Chris Hardwick’s (@nerdist) new self-help book “The Nerdist Way: How to Reach the Next Level (In Real Life)”. I’ve talked about my love for the guys over at Nerdist Industries (Chris in particular) before, but I never really saw myself really reading a self-help book. In the end, it turned out to be a really good idea.
There’s something about Hardwick’s writing that really resonates with me. It’s personal and engaging, and as a nerd - very relatable. I found myself constantly agreeing with his observations about Nerd life and culture. I think this novel would have really helped motivate me the last couple months while everything in my life was changing. Losing a job, finishing school, and being thrown into the world as a nerd that doesn’t know what to do is very intimidating. Fortunately everything has worked out since then, but it’s definitely something that I can read and agree with.
I recommend that nerds everywhere read this book. It doesn’t matter if you classify yourself as a nerd or a geek, this book will most likely be something that you can relate to. There are absolutely some sections that resonated with me and I’ve already started taking them into effect.
Commuting gives me a lot of time to listen to Podcasts. The only problem is that it gives me almost TOO much time to listen to Podcasts. I caught up on my favourite Podcast “The Nerdist Podcast” hosted by Chris Hardwick, Matt Mira and Jonah Ray. They discuss everything from video games to comedy to music to films. It’s overly nerdy and incredible. Once a week they post a “hostful” episode where the three hosts just sit and talk about whatever, and once a week they post a “guest” episode where they speak with comedians, filmmakers, actors, musical artists, etc.
Now that I’ve completely caught up on Nerdist, I had to pick another Podcast to listen to. I decided on The Indoor Kids - hosted by comedian Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordon. It is a video game-centric Podcast and every episode has a new guest who discusses their love for video games. Kumail and Emily do a great job hosting and they are extremely passionate about the industry and have been personally affected by video games growing up. It’s nice to have an alternative to my usual Podcast - especially one that I’m thoroughly enjoying.
I have been watching Craig Ferguson a lot lately. It’s absolutely amazing, I had no idea how great it was. This clip is also great because it combines Craig Ferguson and one of my new favourite comedians - Chris Hardwick. I’ve been listening to The Nerdist podcast and it is really amazing. To all my nerd friends, please make sure to sit down and listen to this. Hardwick is really funny and has relevant comedians (past and present) on to talk about nerdy things.
Great stuff. More interesting things tomorrow!
