The trailer for “Legion” was pretty ridiculous. It featured an old woman transforming into some sort of demon and crawling up a wall, lots of action and creepy characters. When it came to theatres, even though Meg and I were planning on seeing it, the general consensus was that we’d hate it and should save our money.
I’m glad I waited, but not for that reason. The film wasn’t actually that bad. It wasn’t good, and certainly wasn’t an achievement of cinematic proportions…but for a decent action/horror flick it was alright. The highlights of the film were obviously the action scenes and the director knew it - making sure that the talking scenes were brief and uncomplicated. There were a couple of interesting scenes (the aforementioned old woman scene along with a couple other creepy angels) and some lame dialogue, but overall wasn’t nearly as bad as I was bracing myself for.
It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, and wasn’t overly compelling. I think this film comes down to a matter of taste and even though I generally dislike horror films, this one didn’t really fall into the typical categories that have been coming out lately (it wasn’t a gore film, not was it terrifying…it was just spooky). Definitely worth a watch, but I don’t think I have to see it again - the trailer is the best.
