Initially, Meg and I were going to see Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant in theatres. Due to lackluster reviews and lack of expendable money, we opted to just wait to see it when it came out. We weren’t disappointed though. I think I can speak for both of us when I say that it was actually a fun film. It isn’t about to win any Oscars or change modern film-making, but overall it was just fun.
It’s hard to take John C. Reilly seriously in this film, but I think it wasn’t suppose to be serious at all. There definitely were a lot of campy scenes and atrocious dialogue, but I’m certain that it was intentional. I thought that some of the special effects were well-done, and there were a couple of really good lines in it. Overall, I think it’d be worth checking out if you liked “Lemony Snicket” or some elements of the “Harry Potter” series.
