I had been looking forward to seeing T2 for so long now. I saw it such a long time ago that I only remembered a few key moments and haven’t had a chance to watch it since. Meg and I watched it this past weekend and it was really great. I can’t say it is “as great as I remember”, but for all the ongoing hype as one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time it was nice to see it again.
As far as entertainment goes, I found it much more fascinating than the first. It was a lot better at keeping my attention, and wasn’t overly heavy on a plot filled with love and longing - instead there was more death and destruction. The special effects grew by leaps and bounds from the first film. It was the first time that I remember as a kid being wowed by computer-generated effects, and it holds up pretty well even to this day. I was very impressed with the actual maquettes and dummies that were used. In the first film, they show Arnold’s face multiple times, scarred up or torn up, and it looks awful. In this film it was much more believable. This film was really great, I’m glad I got to see it again. Soon I’ll be re-watching Terminator: 3, so stay tuned!
And as a rant: The Blu-ray I have is the “Skynet Edition”, which is suppose to contain an extended cut of the film, loads of special features, etc. The player in my living room required a firmware update before it could be played at all, and even then it took at least 10 minutes for the disc to load - really bizarre and super annoying. Second - the “extended” edition runs for about 16 extra minutes…much of which seemed to be just furthering the plot with unnecessary details (which can usually be the case). Overall, I’d say stick with the standard cut of the film.
