Before Christmas my Dad gave me some money toward the Terminator trilogy on Blu-ray, with the release of Salvation coming up I jumped at the chance to own the previous three (two of which were amazing classic sci-fi films). Meg and I finally watched the first one, knowing that we had to watch it to get to T2 - which could quite possibly be the greatest sci-fi film of all time.
I remember watching Terminator when I was really young, well not OVERLY young but at least eight. It was pretty scary and awesome at the same time. Watching it now wasn’t as frightening but it’s a pretty great film all in all. I thought that it was a really interesting story that must have been a really innovative idea for its time. After so many CG films being thrown at me all the time, it’s nice to really appreciate the stop motion animation and puppetry that took place in the early 80’s that revolutionized the way that sci-fi was presented. Sure, Arnold is digging at his plastic head with a scalpel in order to get his busted eyeball out - and it looks terrible. But imagine seeing that for the first time and being blown away with how accurate and terrifying that would have been.
Although it was a little slow at times, the action was there and so was the quality of the story. I’m just even more excited to know that I get to re-watch T2 soon!
