Prometheus might easily be one of my most highly anticipated films in the past few years. From the first rumours of Damon Lindelof working on a “prequel” to Aliens back in 2010 to the first time I watched the trailer that was released half a year ago, I was entirely on board. It was hard to think that a film like this would be able to live up to my expectations, but I have to admit that I was thoroughly impressed.
It’s been a while since a great sci-fi film came out (that wasn’t just another superhero movie), but Ridley Scott managed to create a stunning, mind-blowing film. The film drew obvious inspiration from one of my favourite sci-fi films of all time (Alien), and infused the same time of ambience and anticipation that had me on my edge of my seat.
I think the nerd in me was able to nit-pick a little more than necessary - some casting and scripting choices made the film’s story feel a bit forced at times and may have benefited from some tightening up - but it was really an outstanding film and I highly endorse it. Get out there and see this on the big screen. I saw it in 2D by choice, but after seeing the hard work they put into the film and some of the directing and editing choices made - it would have probably looked just as great in 3D. If you appreciate science fiction at all: get on it.
