Drag Me to Hell is hard to classify, that’s for sure.
On one hand, it’s definitely getting back to Sam Raimi’s roots of the Evil Dead trilogy, combining awfully cheesy lines and ridiculous moments with a classic horror film. On the other hand, it’s an awful film.
And not just awful, but a supremely bizarre, not very interesting film. All the cliché elements are there as well that allow the film to exist in the first place…but the one thing that truly bothered me was the fact that the main character (Alison Lohman) didn’t do anything unjust. She was doing her job, she was compassionate, and everyone still treated her like garbage. What a weird, weird film.
Glad I saw it, but if I never see it again it will be too soon.
